It's a tricky subject and a lot of people seem to think this either will be the apocalypse or the utopia of art. But I think it's somewhere in between.
First of all. AI can (at least right now) only take previous work and "remix" it. An AI wouldn't be able to invent cubism on its own.
When it comes to how the models are trained I think you should be able to use whatever. But I don't think AI art should be able to be copywrited.
The main issue is not the technology but the capitalist system we live under. Greedy corporations will exploit any technology without regard for others. Leaders said industrialization would help workers and give people more time. Instead people got replaced and the lucky ones still having a job are working more than ever.
There is a huge risk that companies will use AI to cut cost resulting in people losing their income in the short term and thestagnation and total collapse of industries in the long run.
