I agree that ai art should be a crime. It is just a worse and more lazy versiom of stealing, for crying out loud. But I do not agree on the singular point that people who use AI to generate some of their essays are bad. You frame it as if people go to university or college purely to learn, but that isn't the case. A lot of jobs still require people to have a degree to work them, and so in order to get a good paying job, you *have* to attend one of these types of schools. Even if the traching style isn't good for you, even if you can barely affoard tuition, you still have to go. That is why I don't find generating essays like that is a bad thing to do, it's just speeding your way to a basic degree so you can make enough money to live. From there, you can learn in your own way, maybe go back to school once you have the money for it. But the critical thing is, you have options. Using AI to not have to learn anything is bad, but using it so you can get the chance to live? I can't fault people for that.
