This is how mega-corporations, the kind we see in sci-fi films, come to dominate the world. They create the AIs that replace human workers, and as automation wipes out entire industries, unemployment soars. To prevent society from collapsing, some form of universal basic income would inevitably emerge, funded by taxes on these corporations. But here’s the paradox: the very companies responsible for eliminating jobs become the same ones whose taxes support the unemployed, who then spend that money right back into the corporations’ products and services. In effect, a single company (or a small handful of them) could end up responsible for nearly all functional jobs, for funding social welfare, and for supplying everything people buy. That circular dependency is the only way an economy could sustain itself once AI automation displaces human labor on a massive scale.
