Artists are not being deprived of anything from AI making art based on their art. If I look at your painting, like it, then create something similar in style to it through learning from it, it isn't a crime. That is what AI is doing through training and utilization. Now, im not going to say it isn't strange and feelsbad, but it isn't theft due to the lack of depriving someone of their property. IP law in general is a fucking mess in general and stifling this technology would be a gigantic mistake.
Imagine if, when the printing press was invented, someone said, "Nuh uh, you cant reproduce anything that was made by a scribe. Everything is protected and you will be prosecuted" We then wouldn't have been able to spread religion, science, and art to the world so easily.
