i dont rlly draw (disability reasons, tho i Texhnically could it hurts too bad) but i am a writer. ive been told for many years how talented i am at writing, and how its a natural gift. i'm not published and definitely not as good as many ppl, but i hope to publish my work someday. but the reality of my "talent" and journey with writing is happy at many points but also often really depressing, including childhood trauma and my struggles with becoming further disabled. what i had that has made me keep going isn't talent, but a supportive family and people who believed in me. someone could be born with talent for something, the natural ability to become a true master with ease, but still come to believe they suck if they're told it enough times as a kid. ai isn't going to give you the ability to create and be proud of something like an artist or writer or craftsman. it won't fill that role. but find a couple friends who will look at/read/interact with your work and tell you what they like and encourage you to continue, even if it isn't perfect yet? you'll get way more fulfillment that way. also, hate to be harsh here, but if you think art is about the finished product, your issue isn't talent. art is about the journey. do you have ANY idea how many trashed poems, unfinished brainstorms, abandoned wips, and ripped out pages authors go through? no, cause you don't see that, you only see what it looks like when its finished. but the finished piece is like, 1% or less of the actual process of writing. if you don't enjoy the messy process, you don't like writing, you like having something written for you. using ai for "art" isn't art, its a machine imitating a finished product for you. we can talk about talent once you get that point. also our society drains our creativity on purpose. i've had so many people tell me they suck at writing and never have good ideas, but then tell me fascinating stories when having a casual conversation. i'm just putting it on paper and refining it. to me its literally like polishing a gem. you can tell me your story is an ugly rock, but it was a ruby all along. i remind myself of this regularly when i feel like my work is no good. anyway, sorry for the essay. this is just important to me, and it also makes me sad to see these people who waste their potential and actual cool ideas on a machine. you can draw a stick figure or scribble and i will still find it more interesting, beautiful, and valuable than anything done by generative ai, and no that is not a joke or exaggeration. please don't turn to imitation machines because of lacking talent. enjoy the human act of creating instead.
