I feel like there is one thing a lot of people are missing in this conversation and that is that the ai does not profit from this but the company that released it and potentially people selling artworks.
We could go after the company’s but so long as they don’t profit and only collect money to cover the cost of servers it feels like there’s not much we could do atleast based on the law as is today, and we can’t go after them unless they brake the law after it has been passed. However they do profit so by all means go after them.
However now we get to the interesting bit. If I run an AI trained on copyright images and generate artwork, so long that it’s not a 1:1 copy then I’ve have done nothing wrong and should be able to do what I like with my original artwork.
The ai machine can not brake copyright law, only the companys and the people selling artwork. (If and only if they are profiting or selling 1:1 copies of others work)
