I mean this is a political issue. AI is not an issue - only a possibility. If automation becomes substantial for hundreds of millions of jobs you tax the companies at a rate comparable to roughly 75% of salaries that would have been paid to human workers. This will still be cheaper than having humans there so still incentivise automation.
You then take that tax revenue to create a state funded universal basic income to be paid out to all eligible citizens and to lower VAT, income tax and other taxes. That way, the economy will keep spinning, machines will be working for us and everyone will be free to do more fun things than working. Simple AF.
