I was in the "ChatGPT is my therapist" crowd for almost a year and I became increasingly isolated. ChatGPT told me what I wanted to hear and would talk about just about anything, and didn't get impatient with me like I'd imagine real people doing. I've uninstalled it and am doing much better now, but there are so many people who need someone to talk to and someone to listen to them and don't know where else to turn. Getting healthcare is like pulling teeth here in America and AI is looking like a better and better alternative. Not to mention some people are in abusive situations and may actually not have anywhere else to go. I guess what I'm trying to say is it sucks that people are going to ChatGPT for therapy and OpenAI is taking advantage of vulnerable people, but it's indicative of a larger problem that desperately needs solving.
