I think the biggest issue with AI-related catastrophe, is that because of the (rather incorrect) labeling of these learning models as Artificial Intelligence, everyone assumes that what we need to worry about is them gaining sentience and taking over the world. Where actually they possess neither intelligence nor the capacity to gain intelligence and instead catastrophe will be a result of human reliance on incompetent systems being mispurposed to control and influence important facets of society. Like driving cars, air traffic control, etc.
