These anti-ai art rants are always incoherent. “You aren’t an artist if you write what the illustrator should draw.” That’s called being a comic book writer. That’s called being an animation writer. Illustration is a craft. Craftsman are upset that their hierarchy is being dismantled and destroyed. Welcome to automation where all physical labor is replaceable. None of this has anything whatsoever to do with art because this is entirely about CRAFT. It’s about people being angry that their LEARNED SKILL and their position on a given hierarchy is being subverted. I feel bad for illustrators and VFX people and the person who lost her position in the check out line or the guy who used to work at the auto manufacturer. The machine took your job. It happens. Labor will be replaced. Art never will be. Nothing about human prompted Ai-art makes it “not art.” The artist is burdened to make manifest in our reality what they observe of the ethereal. Art is simply that and nothing more. One’s level of craft is irrelevant. The tools they use (including Ai) are irrelevant. Their level of skill or time or whatever other nonsense is irrelevant. If someone wants to call Ai “collage”, fine. Who cares? Again, none of that is relevant to art. What Ai art has exposed is TRULY how few artists exist in the world, and how many craftsmen have wrongly taken on that moniker. This has shown their true face and nature, and it is antithetical to what an artist is. They’re just raging ego and bitter capitalists.
