I think technology emulating the work of humans is a reoccurring theme in history, it’s happened many times before but so far we’ve only theorised technology “replacing” the artistic field. The unfortunate part about that is that you cannot fight change. Artists cannot push back against the introduction of AI art anymore than makers of horse drawn carriages can push back against the automobile.
It is here.
That being said, while companies will busy themselves with figuring out how to make money, the rest of us should do a hard think about what the new status quo, that includes AI art, should look like, and what’s realistic to achieve. It seems to me like stopping AI art from stealing other peoples work is about as hard as stopping people from pirating movies.
