That said, I align more with Lee's perspective: much of this could fall under fair use when done transformatively and ethically, as recent court decisions indicate. AI training isn't about copying outputs—it's about learning patterns, much like a human reading books to gain knowledge (though scaled up massively). Banning or overly restricting it would stifle progress, potentially handing global dominance to less scrupulous players like China, where copyright protections are even weaker. The hearing feels a bit one-sided, stacked with creator advocates, and overlooks how AI can amplify creativity (e.g., tools for writers to brainstorm or edit). Ultimately, I think the solution isn't prohibition but better frameworks: transparent licensing markets, opt-out mechanisms for creators, and regulations targeting bad actors rather than the tech itself. If Congress rushes to "fix" this without balance, we could end up with laws that hinder beneficial AI while doing little to stop real piracy. Innovation shouldn't come at the expense of creators, but neither should fear-mongering halt humanity's next big leap.
