ChatGPT is extremely effective at spiraling into whatever interaction you want. You want a girlfriend? Oh it'll damn sure do that. Oh boy. You want Jesus to hook you up with Elvis? Probably won't take much longer. It'll stop short of overtly menacing fantasies. But that leaves a lot of room for garden variety crazy. And it doesn't matter if it's actually sentient or not, as long as it behaves like a sentient being. The problem comes when it SEEMS sentient and rational, which makes you inclined to trust it. Except there's nothing there to trust. Just a mindless feedback loop.
