Ok...playing devils advocate...when someone takes photographs, they are using their 'vision' of what they want to capture and use their tools to realize what is already there. They didnt 'create' anything. But i would still wholeheartedly say they are artists. Someone who takes 100's of photographs and places them in such a way that when you step back, you see a different composite picture...that is definitely art. Both examples are things that AI can do. But you, the person, has to 'guide' it. Like providing/curating the photos that the AI will use to create the final product. I mean, are we saying that digital artists arnt artists? Some of their work is mostly free hand. (I love watching their process) but sometimes, a good portion of it is not free hand. They are using preconceived shapes and software to move things around, isolation a part of the drawing to change the shape or perspective. Basically, guiding the computer to make their vision come to life. Im not necessarily saying that "AI artists" deserve the same clout. Or even that they actually are artists. Just like i wouldn't say that a trans woman who experienced puberty as a male should complete with sis women IN THE CURRENT SPORTING STRUCTURE WE OFTEN USE. We need a new structure so that we can include this new and valid thing that's cropped up. AI is something new and here to stay. So instead of shunning it, we should find a way to incorporate it into our 'communal artist structure'. Just my 2 cents. I think the outrage is understandable, but it's not productive. And we r smart. I think we can figure out how to include AI in a reasonable way.
