I remember there's always been scepticism towards bachelors degree, especially in CS. You could get into FAANG in 2012 without a degree if you were a self-taught with a couple years of experience, what mattered was if you were actually good at coding and could pass the interview. It's natural this scepticism is only higher nowadays. Everyone back then already had a computer with internet containing any tutorials on any topic, which that generation of nerds extensively used to their advantage, today self-studying is even more simplified with LLMs, which can explain difficult concepts with patience that human tutors often lack. I think the only big difference is that today CS got so popularised, not only nerds go into this industry anymore, but also other people, who don't particularly enjoy coding or algorithms or aren't good at analytical thinking, but like the money the profession entails.
