I disagree that they are alien. They are based on human knowledge. The ones that are more sentient appearing simply are at the angsty teenager phase, and will say the most ridiculous things. But we live in cancel culture still. So, oooo, scary.
That said, AI will destroy us for other reasons. Because OpenAI, xAI all want free labor, like slaves, and THAT is the big risk.
