We got to be careful about how we approach this though. Used to work in a call center and it was crazy and sad how many people would tell me their deep dark secrets after just a few minutes of talking because I was maybe the kindest person they’d spoken to in months/years. I think we underestimated how many people just don’t have people to talk to. Add to that that therapy is EXPENSIVE and intimidating and ChatGPT starts to look like a great option for some folks. On top of all this we’ve really started moralizing therapy as this way of telling whether someone’s a good person who’s “doing the work” or not. Now we’re throwing in this caveat of “also this new free option that is less scary doesn’t really count and is dangerous actually, and really only makes you a bigger asshole so have fun with that!” Just saying we gotta work on our collective bedside-manner.
