It seems as if the media can't differentiate between Full Self Driving (FSD) and the simple lane following Autopilot.
Autopilot, like any cruise contol system, doesn't care at all about flashing lights. That's the drivers task.
I guess the driver should be awake and take over when following the lane isn't appropriate anymore.
Much like the autopilot in a commersial jet has a pilot who make course changes, landings, and such things.
I don't know if US media are morons, or just like to confuse the public. It's pretty bad either way!
