AI will decouple labor from capital. When people wake up and realize everyone knows someone who lost a job because of AI, they will freak out and demand that either a) politicians prevent companies from replacing human workers, or b) pay everyone to sit at home. My fear is that the (b) lazy voters win, and we get de facto communism, where the powerful control the AI systems and everyone else gets the leftovers.
The rebuttal to the "billionaires are bad" class-warfare argument has been that billionaires create companies and jobs. But if they only use AI instead of hiring people, that will no longer be true, the Marxists will then be correct, and we'll have a level of class warfare that will bring down societies.
