AI Art is completely fair if it is personal use. You want a big tiddy werewolve waifu eating three bananas for some kind of inside joke in your friend group, go ahead, use AI Art. Commercial use is kind of difficult. How do you even copyright something like that? Is everything created by AI automatically copyrighted by the person that wrote the prompt? If someone else uses the same prompt, and gets just a slight variation of the same artwork, is that still copyrighted by someone else? And everything is created using an algorithm/AI using other artworks it doesn't have the rights to as resource.
But there are also different niche uses for AI, like expanding already drawn artwork. When does it start to be someone's work? When is it the work of the AI? It''s really difficult to put a definite definition down for something like that. Therefore the main difficulties will be on how to work out applicable copyrightlaws. As a technology it probably won't go away. But usually the bad actors who try to make a quick buck usually jump ship once regulations are in place to stop abusive acting.
There will probably either end up being a stop to copyrighting AI Artwork, or something that will outlaw the use of unowned artworks to train an AI.
AI, if used responsibly, can be a great tool for artists.
