One of the real problems here is that the focus is a lot on nations, the US, China or whatever but in this its a few people who hold the keys to the future and they are not likely to share. It is just not in human nature - getting ahead will just increasingly be the excuse for clinging to power to be the one who sets the variables until it gets away from them. If jobs go away cities will fall apart. Why live where life is expensive? It will make no more sense. If people do not have purchasing power black markets can still arise - I do not see the value of currency there anymore. Currency is just there to motivate people to work and offer a system for exchange of value. If no one really works not only will they have no means of purchasing; purchasing itself will loose its meaning since currency is a lease on someone else's time. So its not just about unemployment, there is no incentive to sell time for money since money buys you nothing. Energy is the currency, resources are the currency - hopefully it will not be safety or basic means of life but of course if we are not careful AI takes away our lives but if that happens what do we then need AI for? The only thing that works is seeing AI as a human right - everyone has to benefit equally. I know a lot of people will fall apart completely if they do not have jobs. Our world runs on effort, human effort - it keeps people focused, creates meaning in their lives - if that goes away so does our civilization.
