A fascinating and funny video. Are you sure though that there is a clear distinction between pretence and the real thing?
Don't human babies mimic adults in order to learn to speak, basically faking until they make it?
Language itself is not inherent, only the capacity for language is. A human baby raised by wolves will not speak a single human word until they meet the first humans.
And without language you cannot have (verbal) thoughts; thoughts would only be visual or emotion based, and thus much more limited.
Perhaps current LLM models are baby AIs which are gradually learning to walk, think etc
Mimicry, just like with hunan babies, might soon lead to the real thing; however if the mimicry is perfect would we ever know and/or would it matter? Is there a difference between a flawless simulation and whatever is simulated?
