They are already off shoring dispatching jobs and brokerage work. Local hauling is the next shoe to drop in this industry. Automated trucks can do drop trailer loads picking up and delivering in the middle of the night with less traffic and no need for human interaction. Local runs will go the quickest, as any breakdowns or errors can be solved with a human to go get the rig. Long haul and multi drop loads will still exist, human drivers will be needed for them but you will have an abundance of drivers so wages for those lanes will continue to plummet forcing more and more independent carriers out of the business and major carriers with automated rigs doing local stuff subsidizing the few long haul multi drop drivers they still employ. UBI is needed now more than ever.
