I feel like there is a way to use ai positively. but no one is teaching people how to. the reality is critical thinking is one of the most important things for people to learn, and in my opinion its something many adults of today don't really possess either. being able to memorise every answer in a book is one thing, but being able to actually think ahead, etc thats quite another. And now i think of it, while ai as a tool can be useful for learning IF coupled heavily with critical thinking, perhaps me saying that is about as good as claiming chess might help people develop critical thinking skills too (idk if that claim is true) but it does force you to look ahead a few moves in advance as you get better at it! a skill that helps in ordinary life, being able to look ahead days, weeks or month sin advance, or being able to imagine how one thing can lead to another and follow the domino chain 5 or so events in... AI has proven to be useful in my experience. In teaching me multiple languages, faster than when i learnt python by book initially. and it allows me to explore deeper into topics at a far more accelerated rate than scanning thru a book ever could. but perhaps its because What Where, Why and How are questions i always ask it. if i dont understand something i question it. if i do understand thats great we move on! however it can still be dangerous i think if used unguided for non critical thinkers. for example when i was learning a new language, after repeated tries and it gaslighting me into believing it was my fault, i decided to try a different resource, figured out that ai had actually got it wrong and likely stuck in a loop of hallucination and when i finally tried it/corrected ai on its mistakes, it sort of understood, but also continued to gaslight me lol. GPT on its own is not good for education, its about as good as sitting someone in front of google and saying "now learn stuff" to me I find GPT to literally be another version of a search engine. its able to understand searches that a search engine cant really help with, and its perfect for information exploration. but it really does need someone to understand what it spits out, or to question it if not, and to also be able to do the age old "go to multiple sources" thing. aswell as asking it where it got its information from. So i suppose if you asked google 2+2 it would tell you the answer., and if chatgpt is a more advanced version of that, it would also tell you the answer. but memorising random facts will not make you smart or capable imo! I think personally you need to understand how to ask, and in reality the core things we were all taught when we were younger: when, where, what, why, how, and always check other sources. and finally make sure you understand everything it tells you or else go back to where, what, why, how...
