Yeah, thats because that minority of tech guys who terrify everyone with what they want AI to do ARE THE ONES WITH ALL THE POWER IN THE INDUSTRY!! He leaves out that fundamental detail that puts all this into context; power dynamics. It doesnt matter if most tech people dont want AI to take over. What matters is who has the power to make something happen. The tech oligarchs dictate what happens to tech. Not the majority of people in the industry. Its those at the top. And the ones at the top are fascistic neo-feudalist anti-human sociopaths.
Mark my words, this video will age badly. Neil said he's a realist-optimist yet he's clearly blinded by optimism. Yes, science can do all the positive things he's saying but it can also lead us down horrible waters as well. It depends who's the captain of the ship. Who's in charge of these industries dictates how positive the outcomes are for the average person. His mentor Carl Sagan had a more realistic outlook on humans and technological advancement.
