Something simillar happened to my company, i work as a principal software architect for a small German based company in the networking sector, we provide software for mobile device management and wifi networks, mainly big corporate clients and banks, i used to lead the cloud infrastructure and mobile teams so long story short i was mostly responsible for the services that control the devices and the applications that allow people to manipulate them and the network and one of my dear friends also an architect was responsible for the wifi/networking controllers as well as openwrt firmware layers that we have. Our CEO, really big on AI, wanted to put it anywhere he can got into an argument with both of us, and we were against it, because our products already have value, and at the end of the day there is nothing useful and AI can do in the area of our expertise. We are also a self funded company, we live on what we make out of our products and it's no where near the amount required to run gpus in the cloud for what is a useless feature at the end of the day and explaining how all the companies that run such products are literally burning money right now to someone that can't comprehend basic mathematics is a hard challenge on it's own. Well my friend didn't exactly get fired, but he left because he obviously saw there is no reason to work for a moron, well now i inherited like everything that my friend was working on, the whole company is in shambles, he can't find a replacing for him, i doubt he will ever find one, i am trying to do my best with supporting his team with anything that i can however i simply have no expertise in firmware development at all, and because the CEO was a dick, and a cheap ass he didn't want to hire people to help him out there, it's been 2 weeks now just setting up the tools to patch firmware, our company is literally 1 vulnerability away from taking down the infrastructure of several big banks across Germany and even if there is a fix for it, we can't patch it, because obviously he was the only person in the company that wrote the tools for patching the devices and the only person that knows the process around it. So if you're a CEO, and you think of firing anyone, carefully read this and understand that humans are more then just numbers on the sheet, and the saying goes money comes money goes but there is always a deeper hole for the moron at the end of the day.
