I generate a lot of AI images, though I don't post them or share them online. I like to generate anime and fantasy style wallpapers mainly. I think you bring up some interesting points here, and there is certainly some validity to some of them in my opinion, but I also think your bias is playing a big role here too. Yes, people misuse AI image generators to do terrible things, but that's just human nature. Should we take away cars because of drunk drivers? Of course not. It's easy to fall into the trap of blaming the tool, rather than the people misusing it. I also think that AI is not as big of a threat to artists as you might believe. People still have to hire an artist for something specific. AI is not good at following specific instructions, it'll just give you something close to what you asked for. That said, I see how using AI to generate images in a certain artist's style could be harmful and I can see why you wouldn't want people training AI on your art. Lastly, this tool you're using to "poison" your art images can actually be defeated pretty easily. At best, you'll slow someone down if they're trying to train an AI on your art, since they'll have to comb through their dataset and identify the problem images. The thing is, the artifacts that tool adds to the images looks a lot like banding that you see in older images and videos. There are image filters to reduce/remove banding from images and video. Even without those filters, I can think of another way to completely remove those artifacts from the image, but I'll keep it to myself... :) At the end of the day, you're fighting a losing battle here. This AI stuff is already out in the world, you can't "unspill the milk" so to speak. Suing the companies that created the tools won't do anything to stop it either. Do what you feel is best, but this stuff is here to stay.
