Geoff Hinton should not have won a nobel prize in physics for his work on artificial neural networks and I honestly believe he is very infatuated with himself and his work. There simply will not be an AI that gains self control and agency with current, and near future, computer hardware and software. This is a grift. He is flattering his own ego and able to do so because common folk don't understand computer systems. He is able to use that for "oohs" and "ahhs" directed towards his life achievements.
