The point is that the accident probably would never have happened if the driver had been driving the car in the traditional way - fully focused on the task in hand. All automated systems reduce user interaction and over time lead to a diminuation of skill. AI will only accelerate this trend and lead to more mishaps as the human race gradually deskills.
