My view. Referencing is, in part, is making the conscious decision to directly copy part of another thing. AI art is so digested, that it is barely using any of the actual individual art pieces it's fed.
For example, I'm using AI Art to help me make art. Me directly tracing the AI Art is less stealing than me using a dozen reference images to finish the detail of part of that final piece.
Tl:Dr Referencing is worse than AI Art. So if referencing is okay, AI Art is too.
