Very glad to see you talking about this Senator. You have some excellent points and I hope people see the logic and merits in your arguments. Couple of things I'd add to the conversation. As a software engineer of 20 years, I take issue with the idea the people against AI must be "luddites". I design, build, and maintain complex applications in the industry and utilize many types of technologies to accomplish this work; and yet I am fundamentally opposed to all aspects of the LLM/AI sector. The widespread acceptance and usage of this technology is directly opposed to the desperate work needed to correct the fossil fueled climate disaster. The rampant spread of data centers gobbling up water and electricity to facilitate what is essentially a toy, is capitalism at its worst. The studies coming out showing how long term use leads the degradation of our brains and our ability to problem solve and think, which is an even more destructive aspect to our future. The private entities controlling and pushing this technology have no interest in future generations, they have no interest in following laws set by The People, and have no interest in sharing power with workers. The investor class has been pushing and will continue to push this technology further and further until they can get rid of all their "expensive" workers and replace them with an "ethical" slave class that they can sell restricted access to, or sell protection against. We should be at a 4 day work week, if only so we can have more time to organize our co-workers and neighbors to fight against this technocratic takeover.
