We currently are controlling the movements and operations of a robot on the harsh surface of Mars. If it's financially possible a robot can be made to do all the manual labor jobs we have today. Driving a truck, fixing an heat and air problem, stopping a leaky toilet.
It's building things so they can program a robot to work on the truck or heat pump or toilet. Once these are in homes with GPS signals attached to them, the even physical labor jobs can be replaced.
I'm retired and thus won't be around. But the current discussions about socialism and capitalism will be as useless and discussions about using whale oil to light lamps. Just an old man's talking about nothing important. It takes a long time to send a signal to Mars. Sending a signal to earth from just outside our atmosphere will be child's play. Profit, not technology is what keeps it from happening now.
