Yes, I completely agree that many generative AI applications are questionable to say the least. However as someone who is actively working in the film industry I can say that it has been a game changer. At least on most of the films that I work on there is he mentality to not ever make something that you’ve seen before. So when we are making reference images, it is incredibly hard to just look it up so what we do instead is generate an image of the scene than using an AI to turn into a 3-D model and reposition the camera to get it to be how you want. And even the VFX is made easier in some ways. For instance, the VFX artists on these films, no longer have to wait for the computers to render for a very long time. They said, render basic elements and let an AI fill in some of the light bounce. It would’ve otherwise taken the computers weeks if not months to figure out.
