Sadly you are not looking at the big picture here. For a non artist Generative AI is giving you the ability to unlock your imagination and create ART even it being AI. I always wanted to be able to draw, I went to art courses back when I was 7 years old. I just don't have the skills even after learning and practice a lot, my hand eye cordination is not good enough.
About the ethical part I agree, it's not fair that this models used people art without permission to train this models and profit for it. But if the model is free and open source I would argue that it is ethical since they are not profiting from it, and all the resulting art is also non profit and free for everyone to use.
