as a indie game dev with no 3d/2d art skills what so ever I can confirm that artists are usefull and AI can create rough concept arts at best (the downside of this is obvious: AI's very repetetive). The 3d AI is shit even for background assets. maybe 2d ai would do if you wanted some generic 2d assets (for example background for some simple game like Super Mario).
