As someone who has used AI art for references and help with ideation, I scan for flaws and see what additions the design can benefit from in collaboration with my artists. And in some cases for weapons, we draft out an orthographic and edit that until we have our final design.
Using AI as a reference can be useful so long as you take measured steps to not integrate its mistakes.
