I think automating some industries, the agriculture and the exploitation of resources ( asteroid mining too?) should happen as soon as possible. It could bring to all people, especially the less privileged, basic living standards - clean water, food, shelter, healthcare. Maybe then there will be less crime and less poverty and we could start, as a species, to focus on greater things like advancing our technology, expanding our knowledge of the Universe and exploring space, both inner and outer.
