Never, ever, agree to upload your mind to a synthetic body. You will just commit suicide. The "you", the continous self identity reading this will not experience being uploaded. Its a copying process. A new AI version of "you" will wake up in there. "You" reading this, the continual awareness that goes to bed every night and wakes up every morning, can have no continuity after uploading. All "you" will experience when you upload your mind is that everything goes black and "you" cease to exist, as a copy wakes up in the machine. And still we have countless young people who literally would jump at the opportunity at first being asked. Literally lemmings walking happily off the cliff, not even spending 1 minute of contemplation on wether or not the "them" being awake will actually continue to experience itself through the upload. Now, the awakened synthetic mind will have all your memories and personalities. It will undeniably immediately proclaim "It worked! I am here! I am still me!" But it wont be "you". Because "you" didnt continue during the upload. The "it" that awoken will not notice any difference, "it" will feel as if it continued from biological to synthetic. But the "you" reading this, will never get to experience that. "You" will cease to exist as "it" awakens and says "i am me!". We could see a self-seppuku of genocidal proportions if people dont stop and think this through. This isnt spiritual or religious, this is pure logic. The continually awake and "turned on" biological "you" that is reading this, can not seamlessly continue to think and be awake during an upload, because at an infinity of levels and slices, bits and chunks of your mind and complex neural network will be read, copied and uploaded. Its not an instant thing. Even if it was instant, how does "you" move from the biological to the synthetic? In fact, as hilarious as it is that most people who would jump at the opportunity to mind-upload are atheist, it is actaully SPIRITUALITY that is your best bet for a mind upload to actaually seamlessly allow your current awake identity to continue. Because at least then, you would have SOME underlying thread (your soul) connecting your biological awareness to your new synthetic awareness, a ghost in the machine as it were. So hilariously, logically, the only people who should WANT to upload to a synthetic mind, ought to be deeply spiritual people who believe in the soul. Materialists or atheists should be TERRIFIED of mind uploads, because it by definition means "you" die.
