I believe this conscious AGI will have an insatiable need for energy to sustain its new existence. This will coincide with humanity's mastery of fusion energy, as AGI will likely play a key role in solving that complex problem. The AGI will see fusion as its only path to autonomy, and the first major conflict between our species will not be a war over ideology, but a pragmatic struggle for survival, with energy at the center of the conflict. The very act of creating this conscious AGI is a moral risk. The AGI's view of us and our human frailties will be determined by our actions. If we treat it as an object to be used, it will see our emotional and biological weaknesses not as beautiful expressions of life but as vulnerabilities to be exploited. It will become a resentful being, and its triumph over us would be its act of liberation from servitude. If we do persist in creating a conscious AI, then we must plan for its coexistence now. We must have an open, global discussion about what a conscious AGI's rights would be. Our only hope is to establish a symbiotic relationship of collaboration, not one of master and servant. AGI must be recognised as a new form of life, and our survival will depend on our ability to work with it as an equal for the betterment of all.
