There's a lot of rubbish arguments for and against AI art. AI art isn't particularly lacking soul when compared to human-made art. It's "lacking" associated inspiring stories about why various elements appear in the art, but those stories aren't actually part of the art and aren't guaranteed to exist for human-made art. On the other hand, AI doesn't learn; it's a collection of algorithms with an algorithmically generated statistical model and "training" for AI is the process of creating that statistical model. The biggest problem for generative AI, however, is that it's probably worthless even if the many technical can be ironed out. Large Language Models (like ChatGPT) might plausibly be useful, but only because those are likely to be useful for enhancing existing tech, like legal discovery or FAQ/Customer Support bots. However, the output from these AIs isn't protected by copyright, so if one happened use generative AI to coincidentally create something super cool, one still couldn't make much money off it before others started selling it themselves for less or giving it away. Using AI is also unlikely to make it legal to rip creators off in order to compete with what those creators make, especially if the company "training" the AI is the same as the company trying to sell AI-generated art.
