It depends on how you use it. If it's doing your work for you of course. If you are using it as a supplement like Google, books, and library it's just a tool. Perplexity will literally give you citations, resources, etc and stuff from journals etc so you can read without doing a Google search through 50 pages. It sounds like the low score could be they were using AI to write their essay rather than depending on their critical learning skls and using AI as a resource with resource citations.
