very frustrating that "AI" now almost exclusively refers to a handful of very specific generative AI paradigms like LLMs and stable diffusion. "AI" used to mean things like "a tiny neural network trained to play mario." it was fun and neat and a toy for software engineers. now AI almost exclusively refers to gargantuan deep learning models being used by people who don't understand them to generate soulless imitations of art.
