ai cant "take inspiration", it just takes. thats because it doesnt take because it felt like the piece of work actually mattered to it and that was something it wanted to create, ai takes because some lazy, entitled asshole told it to. if ai gained sentience and said "i wanna do art" then by all means i'd have nothing against it. because its a sentient being with capability to feel inspired and form interpersonal connections. but the image generation ai currently being used ISNT sentient, and it ISNT choosing to do art of its own accord. its a machine made for a purpose that was determined by the people who made it, and the people who made it are lazy, entitled assholes who keep screaming and whining "the curtains are just blue" every time theyre asked about meaning and value in art. in fact there is a really cool story about sentient ai and art, its an episode of love death and robots titled zima blue. zima is a robot that started out as just a lifeless machine to becoming something truly alive and able to feel. and he doesnt become this way by plainly copying others, he does so through the continuous upgrades that different people who have owned him as a machine give him then going off on his own to experience the world for himself. the thing is, he's not made to just draw pretty pictures. he never was. it was a personal choice of his to become an artist, after having experienced a slow rise to intelligence through the contributions of people in his lifetime. these people CHOSE to contribute to his sentience, and through them he saw what it meant to be a person. and through his journeys, he witnesses nature and relates everything he sees back to himself. that is true inspiration.
