Maybe I'm missing something, but everyone says LLMs are statistical, but they really are not. The math in them is not that simple when aggregated altogether, and the amount of data fed to them makes much harder for them to be simple. Explainability and model debugging is a very hard problem for ML in general, even before the rise of LLMs.
