As a coder working at a FAANG company, I can say that AI is a great tool for a coder to write code faster/smarter but is not a full replacement. An analogy could be a carpenter who has hand tools, now receiving power tools. The power tools won't build a unique custom house without a skilled carpenter to control the tools. You know what job has been irrelevant for decades but still exists? Project managers and middle managers who merely go to meetings and report on other people's work. An engineer with leadership skills already does the majority of "manager" tasks, and if done well in a ticketing system, AI can fully replace the person who 'reports' (takes credit for) up the chain about other people's work.
