I think we're on the downside of the peak, but only just. What makes AI not fit the classic Gartner curve is the advent of Chatbots. People believe they have a "relationship" with ChatGPT, and somehow that makes it more believable - even given the documented cases of bots telling people what they want to hear. Confirmation bias is a dangerous effect whether in politics or Information Technology! When you combine that with the frightful impact on energy grids and prices, the environment, and the economy it makes for a scary future.
