I'm from Spain, right now staying around the Barcelona area, and over here there's plenty of cons yearly about comics, videogames, manga and what not. One of the most popular ones being the 'Salón del Manga', a huge convention that brings tons of artists, sellers and what not, nearly all of it around japanese culture, manga, anime and all of that stuff. Back in the day, I went there yearly and I usually enjoyed the artist shops because hot damn, they sell some good shit. Over my desk? I've got a huge poster with DBZ Broly fighting Goku, cost me just 12 euros and it's been there for like 6 years, love that one. For the last years, I haven't even bothered going there. From the moment this generative AI trash became popular, I knew what was gonna happen - for the latest years, there's been a rise of people trying to pass off slop as real art, taking spaces that would've gone for real artists to sell their shit. Now thankfully, sellers there sell more than just shirts, art, posters and shit - AI has only infected a small area, but the mere fact I have to go on the lookout for what's real art and what's slop makes me not wanna even bother. And this is coming from an artist myself, even if I don't draw a lot (mostly ttrpg maps and such): people calling themselves AI artists are only artist in make-belief. They want the pride that comes from being an artist with none of the effort, and those that sell that garbage deserve to be called what they are: scammers. Can't wait for proper regulations and laws to fall onto AI garbage.
