There's something really interesting too about the similarities of artists and this whole ai debate. Like people think an ai is something that is born in a minute because it can generate art in a minute but it's in fact the work of dozen of developers who put their blood, sweat and tears into it, but because the companies which have the money to launch such big projects to it mostly to make money, they're put aside and taken as the big bad wolf, when they created something so complex. A little bit like people only seeing a drawing posted on twitter and not imagining the hours of work that went into it and now asking for it to be free. You really have to learn to communicate with an AI too, and you have to put quite a lot of effort right now into getting a drawing of a human face that isn't heavily disturbing so I don't think people will be able to just " commission" the AI to draw their ocs so soon, not without spending a few hours trying to find the right prompt, and that's still hours trying to use something to create something, trying to communicate with the AI, even. I think as artists we shouldn't just reject AIs but also try to work hand in hand with the people making them. Seeing what we can give them, what they can give us, and what we can do for the relationship to work well. ( Like, not stealing from artists for profit. ) It's really frustrating right now seeing people pointing fingers at people who are even slightly enthusiastic about AI art telling them they hate artists... When the issue is really more complex and really new and we're all trying to see what it's going to become and form our own opinions. I will always think that openmindness and kindness are the solution to build something with people, not yell at them lmao.
