I am going to play devil's advocate for a minute. First off great video and well researched and presented (as always), but I disagree with your characterization as this being motivated purely by profit. I have watched close to 1000 videos on Tesla and can say with confidence that safety is a top priority there, they test to higher standards than they have to and are innovating and updating their cars constantly to be safer. A recent example is that they use their AI and vision to detect an accident before it happens to pre-tighten safety belts and determine the best way to deploy air-bags to protect passengers. This shows in the latest tests in Europe by NCAP, Tesla's Model Y got the highest rating ever. Unfortunately the development of self-driving cars right now is like the train on a track that is headed for 12 people or you can switch the train to a track with 2 people on it problem. According to Wikipedia, the latest data is 1,350,000 million deaths per year in the world if we can reduce that by 1,000,000 then we should. It is just very difficult for us to accept that on that way to saving all those lives along the way some people that most likely would not have died if nothing was done will die along the new path. We can delay but then more people will die than wouldn't have died if we hadn't delayed but this is far more palatable because we will never know of all the people that die in car crashes each year who wouldn't have if we had self-driving cars on the road. Elon knows this and is someone that will take the hard path if he feels it is right. There are no easy answers either you leave the train on the track to kill 12 people or you choose to switch it to kill 2, Elon has chosen to act to save 12 and sacrifice 2, the other side is do sit by and do nothing and let the 12 die comfortable that you did nothing so it is not your fault. I could go on about the radar/lidar/camera debate but this would be too long to be comprehensive but I will say that each has its place depending on what you want to accomplish and I will state again that I do not believe that this is motivated by greed that they only use cameras but I do not want to get into that debate right now, it would take too long.
