'Smarter than we are', not 'Smarter than us'. AI at least never makes that mistake. It knows about subjects and predicates. Here, “than” functions as a conjunction, introducing an implied clause. In that clause, “we” is the subject of are, so the nominative case is correct: AI is smarter than we are (smart). Similarly, when people say 'My brother is older than me' when it should be 'older than I am.' This seems like pedantry - but imagine if we made these errors in other disciplines, like mathematics, the sciences, history... coding! If we can be exact about these, why not with the discipline that underpins them?
